The growing need for enabling Internet connection in simple devices or environments creates a niche which can be filled with fast and cost-effective  8-bit architectures, as opposed to powerful, but still expensive  32-bit RISC processors.

The MAC-51_AP is a complete, configurable embedded Internet solution. It demonstrates the functionality of the R8051XC2 microcontroller and the Fast Ethernet MAC components running in cooperation with the MicroNet™ TCP/IP stack from CMX Systems®. The entire solution aims at easy set-up of internet enabled applications running in an 8-bit environment.
