Evatronix Enhances its NAND Flash Controller Compatibility with Toggle Mode Support

Support for the emerging high speed memory standards secure the controller’s operation with all types of memories from major vendors, including Toshiba or Samsung.

Bielsko-Biala/Poland, October 18th, 2011 - Evatronix SA, the provider of robust memory controller IP, has announced today the new generation of the NAND Flash controller IP core to complement the emerging major NAND Flash memory standards. The sixth generation of the Evatronix NAND Flash Controller has been enhanced to support Toggle Mode DDR NAND Flash memories.

With an asynchronous interface similar to that used in conventional NAND, the Toggle-Mode DDR Flash NAND requires no clock signal, which means that it uses less power and has a simpler system design when compared to other synchronous NAND alternatives.

“While further increasing data rates translate into tougher design challenges for the engineer, support for all possible standards is key to the design success,” said Arkadiusz Buchalik, Memory Controllers Product Line Manager at Evatronix. “Our new controller generation allows our customers to benefit from the latest memory technologies of one of the largest chip manufacturers – Toshiba, as well as enables further reduction of the design time.”

The Evatronix NAND Flash Controller IP is one of the most configurable memory controllers in the market, with over a dozen of parameters to be set either by configuration script or Special Function Registers. Together with a proprietary BCH error correction algorithm and support for many popular system bus interfaces, like AMBA AHB, PLB, Avalon and FlexBus, the controller can be immediately implemented into any System-on-Chip.

For straightforward application development, Evatronix NAND Flash controllers are also supported by generic or Linux software drivers and SDLL PHYs, which can be adopted to various technology nodes.

Stephan Fiege, Program Manager Embedded Memory at Toshiba Electronics Europe, commented: “Toshiba’s DDR Toggle-Mode NAND is enabling energy-efficient higher performance memory systems and we are pleased to see companies such as Evatronix assisting designers in the adoption of this technology.”

ABOUT TOSHIBA DDR TOGGLE-MODE NAND

Toshiba DDR Toggle-Mode 1.0 NAND has a fast interface, rated at 133 megatransfers/second (MT/s), as compared to 40MT/s for legacy SLC single data rate NAND. This makes it suitable for high performance solid state storage applications, including enterprise storage.
