CAST and Evatronix S.A. Unveils New Cores at DATE 2000

68000 Microprocessor and PIC165X RISC Microcontroller Now Available. Partners Evatronix and Answer Systems also Exhibiting.

March 27, 2000, DATE 2000, Paris - Electronic intellectual property (IP) provider CAST, Inc. today announced the immediate availability of two new reusable cores: the C68000 Microprocessor and the PIC165X RISC Microcontroller.

The C68000 core is derived from and has full functional compatibility with the Motorola MC68000 microprocessor. This 16-bit external and 32-bit internal processor serves interrupts and exceptions, and offers a synchronous interface to support M6800 family peripherals.

"The C68000 adds a crucial element to our growing library of processor cores," said CAST's vice president for IP Newton Abdalla. "The 68000 family has seen widespread use through the years, and this new core makes it easier for designers to replace obsolete pats or to update products with greater functionality or economical consolidation into single-chip systems."

The PIC165X core is a fast, single-chip, eight-bit microcontroller derived from the popular Microchip™ PIC16C5X. It features a power-saving sleep mode and a watchdog timer function, and its RISC (reduced instruction set) architecture provides quick operation.

Both cores were developed by CAST partner Evatronix in Poland. Each has been fully verified by comparing its outputs to actual physical chips using a proprietary hardware modeler, and they are available in synthesizable form with complete documentation, synthesis scripts, and testbenches. Please see the CAST web site for datasheets and additional information.

The new cores - and the complete CAST product line - will be demonstrated at the company's DATE2000 booth (#R2). Representatives from CAST's French distributor and EDA supplier Answer Systems as well as development partner Evatronix will also be on hand to answer customer and technical questions.
